At 5 months my ds1 & ds2 weighed 17lbs/26.5in and 18lbs/27.5in. They fell between the 50th-75th percentile. IMO your son's weight sounds fine. Considering he's put on 10lbs in 5 months he obviously has no problem putting on weight. Your doc should be pleased and not making you worry unnecessarily. I agree with Kimmer23 about the weight vs. length. My ds2 is 11.5 months old and weighs about 23.5lbs. But he is very long at about 32in. And because of that he has no rolls on his body. My ds1 who was shorter and weighed 1lb less at that age was a chunky monkey...all rolls.
