If a UTI is not treated it can become a kidney infection which is very serious. Antibiotics are only taken for ten days and they do clear up the problem. There is no evidence that it causes harm. GD don't worry about it...all doctors check for UTI and infections to prevent a worse problem like a kidney infection that can be life threatening. This is the reason that we have to pee in a cup every time we have an appointment. This is not taking a chance like taking an allergy pill to clear a stuffy nose...this is to prevent a life threatening situation like a kidney infection that can lead to cause more serious problems that in turn could compromise a pregnancy. I did consult more than one doctor and my pharmasist before taking the antibiotics and they all said that it was fine. I cannot tell you the difference between the antibiotics...ask your pharmisist they are usually pretty good with this.
