ABOUT ITCHING in PREGNANCY:

The short answer sare these:
If you have a rash (not caused by scratching, just there), it could be PUPPS. Ask your doctor. There are acouple other possibilities, but that is the most common. Usually miserable to have, but not really dangerous. Treaments are mostly topical ointments, cool showers, etc.

If there is NO RASH, and the itching is most severe in your feet soles and hand palms, it could be cholestasis. It is a dysfunction of the liver and requires a special blood test of your SBA levels to detect. Usually starts in 3rd trimester, though not always. It is rare but can be serious for your baby's health. Important to note: this test can take up to 2 wks to get results back, so ask for it soon if you suspect, don't wait! Topical creams don't help much, meds are needed. Visit itchymoms.com for a good overall site on cholestasis.
