I have pain under my right rib. It can be sharp and sudden or dull and deep. Sometimes it feels like a bulge. I thought it might be a hernia. My GYN saw me today and said that she has the same condition herself. It is a floating rib. Many women have it, but doctors don't think of it or pay attention to it. She didn't even know she had it until a radiologist friend of hers was reviewing her chest x-ray. He told her everything was normal. She commented on the pain she was having and he said, "Oh,that is probably just your floating rib." He said that it is so common that radiologists don't even note it unless that is what the issue in question is about. Of course, if you are preganant, there is a lot going on in that area and it can inflame the rib joint causing even more discomfort. She told me to take motrin (as anti-inflammatory) 2x per day for 2-3 weeks. When it hurts, she suggests leaning back, stretching, and pushing down on the rib to put it back in place. I'm not pregnant, so if you are, check with your doctor before taking motrin. Hope this helps someone! Mary
