I want to write about my experience not only to share with all of you, but also because I'm hoping it will provide some closure for me.
I was diagnosed with a blight ovum on Saturday. I wasn't shocked because previous ultrasounds had been off, and I had been spotting for two days.
I previously had a D and C for a 9 week miscarriage, so I was glad to have the opportunity to try the Misoprostol this time. The doctor told me to take one 200 mg tablet orally three times a day for 5 days (until Wednesday).
The spotting immediately became continuous, but it was the same muddy color - no actual blood. The spotting picked up Tuesday night and all of Wednesday.
On Wednesday night, I woke at 11:30 pm to cramping. I stood up, but I couldn't straighten my back from the pain. I felt an unbelievable urge to go to the bathroom. I imagined that I would pass some clots, but I didn't. I only urinated, which made me feel a little better. At this point, the bleeding had picked up and was bright red.
I returned to bed, but the cramping was awful; I couldn't get comfortable. I went to the kitchen to make something hot to drink, but I barely got the water on the fire when I felt like I would pass out. I started heading bent over back to the living room. I barely made it to a chair before everything blacked out. I put my head between my knees and tried to stay calm. I had a hot flash and tried to take off my robe. I had another unbelievable urge to go to the bathroom, but I was scared to stand up. I waited just long enough to feel stable before slowing lifting my head and managing the few steps to the bathroom. The pad was soaked red blood. I had diarrhea. Really bad diarrhea. I felt my entire bowels empty into the toilet.
I was still dizzy, so I went back to bed. The cramps were coming and going like contractions. When they came, I would twist and turn in bed trying to find a comfortable position, but I couldn't. I would inevitably would get out of bed and pace a little before returning to bed to repeat it.
At 1:30 am, I gave in and called my husband - who was away on business. He was a two-hour drive away. He told me he was on the way.
I also called my doctor, who told me that what I was experiencing was normal, to take some pain killers and try to relax in bed with a heating pad.
I took the pain killers and drifted off a few minutes later.
When I woke up, I was 100% fine. The bleeding continues, but not as much as that night, when I was soaking a pad every hour.
If I were put in this situation again, I'd go with the Misoprostol, but I'd take pain killers at the very first hint of cramping.
I'm sorry for all of your losses and I'm wishing us all luck ttc in the future.
