At my ultrasound at 9.5 weeks, the technicians and doctors determined the fetus had no heartbeat and had stopped growing weeks before. I already knew something was wrong- i felt less pregnant, and had been experiencing spotting for the last week, and again, i just felt something wasn't right. While my husband and I were devastated by the loss, at least the ultrasound provided us with some clarity and something known.
my doctor gave me the option of natural mc, misoprostol, or d&c. i wanted the least invasive option, and was already miscarrying. the brown spotting had moved to red blood and small pieces of tissue. i chose misoprostol to speed the process along.
i took my first dose of 4 pills at 4pm, vaginally. for the first 8 hours, i was spotting brown blood and cramping. I also took hydrocodone. the cramping was uncomfortable, but it could have been worse, i suppose-the pain meds helped.
Eight hours after the first dose, i experienced a whoosh of blood, so much i could feel it.
then, at 3:30 am i passed the gestational sac, and i hope the fetus within that. the doctor told me to collect it, so again, i am hoping the fetus is inside. i don't know for sure.
i decided to take another dose to just make sure the miscarriage is done, though i think that was the main part.
12 hours after the 2nd dose i took another. i continued to pass blood clots.
I will go in for another ultrasound friday to see if this is completed.
As long as everything is ok, i would recommend misoprostol over a d&c. if you find yourself in the sad place of having a miscarriage. it is less invasive and there is less risk of complications, both with anesthesia and potential scarring. You can take misoprostol at home, too. Yes, sorry for your loss.
The doctor says we can try again after 2-3 cycles.
