I just stopped taking the pill the first week of July 2005 after being on it for 8 years. My husband and I did this because we heard from my OB that it could take several months until I can get pregnant and we were hoping to be pregnant by Christmas or mid-winter. But- I just found out two days and two tests ago that I am about 4-5 weeks pregnant and it is only August 20th. It just depends on the person's body. I also read that studies show that getting pregnant soon after stopping the pill has no increased chances of miscarrige or birth defects, in fact, they found that it slightly reduces these chances.
