Hi, ladies, well I too have a similar story to share. I went into pre-term labor at 22 weeks due to the fibroids (10 in total). Throughout my pregnancy, I went to the ER 3 times because of the persistent pain from the fibroids. They made my pregnancy (which should have been the happiest time for my husband & I) a nightmare from beginning to end. I gave birth March 12th to a baby boy Alexandro(when my water broke), who did not make it either. For weeks I was devastated...like I was in a nightmare I couldn't wake up from. My baby's due date was supposed to be July 7th (subsequently also my husband's birthday).
I had my myomectomy on Monday, July 10th. Right now, I'm in the recovery stage. Last February I was given a clean bill of health from my GYN to precede w/ my conception plans. I have had fibroids for approx. 10 yrs., however outside of heavy menses & bad cramps there was no alarms during any of my examinations. However, when I got pregnant in October, the optimism turned to worry and concern quickly 1. at the rate at which they'd grown & 2. the location of them (imagine my horror w/ that news).
During your U/S you'll find out the type, location & exact size of the fibroids in preparation for the surgery. My fibroids were pretty large also (I was told I had a pretty impressive sized uterus the day of my surgery) & the fibroids were all bundled together, the surgeon's pre-surgery intention was only to remove 4-5 of them but during the surgery his final decision was to remove them all. I received the bikini incision which is healing pretty well thus far. I was blessed to find a surgeon that came highly recommended & top in his field at Mt. Sinai Hospital (NY). During my post-op visit my surgeon informed me to wait 3 menstrual cycles before trying again & that his recommendation is for a c-section delivery in the future (general recommendation after such surgery). I too am extremely eager to get back on track. Joker, I wish you the best on your upcoming surgery...don't worry, the surgery will be over before you know it. Goobers, you and I had our surgeries days apart I wish you the very best as well. I felt like no one really understood what I was going through because I don't have any friends or family that went through what I did.
Ladies I appreciate you sharing your stories. Let's all keep in touch!!
