I started hemmoraging on July 11th (4 1/2 weeks after being told I had miscarried). I woke up in the morning, felt okay - had a little cramping. I went to use the bathroom and about 2 steps before I got in there, I felt a gush. I knew what was happening. I got my husband up to look after my son and drove to the hospital. By the time I got there (20 minutes after initial gush), I had only bled a little more. When they checked me in and put me in a room, I laid down on a bed and then I really GUSHED. It was horrible. There was blood everywhere - lots of clots. Not to be completely graphic, but it was like bowls of jello coming out of me. Within an hour, I was starting to pass out from the blood loss. I ended up needing 4 units of blood to stabilize me so that I could be transported to another hospital with better facilities. They ended up doing a Uterine Artery Embolization. (They block the 2 main arteries to the uterus with plugs that will dissolve over time and re-open the blood supply to the uterus.) This was successful, however, I spent a week in hospital and needed 2 more units of blood 3 days after the procedure. Iwas given methotrexate every other day for 6 days to reduce HCG levels. They were down to 204 when I left the hospital and I was just starting to pass the embryo tissue. Now I'm home and still feeling light-headed and groggy. They are hopeful that I will be able to have another pregnancy, but have advised me to wait a year until my body heals, iron supply is back to normal and methotrexate is completely out of my system.
