Hi everyone, I wanted to update again on the anemia in my newborn. We went to the pediatric hematologist today and she said that, in addition to the macrodatin/macrobid, that pyridium breaks up red blood cells and may have been responsible for the anemia my daughter has. Having a stent in while being pregnant was very uncomfortable so I understand why a pregnant mother will want to take this medication. However, I wanted to let people know that if you do, make sure to check your baby's hemoglobin before going home from the hosptial. If they hadn't told us our child was anemic (low hemoglobin) we wouldn't have known. However, if you let it go, it could be fatal or cause developmental damage. We have to have our child's blood taken weekly for 4-6 months now and she may have to have a blood transfusion if it goes any lower.
