I am sorry to hear about everyone's kidney stones. I just wanted to say that I have had two pregnancies and I had pain in my lower back after my second pregnancy when I woke in the mornings. I did nothing about it for about 2 years. Finally I went to the doctor, because I was having severe pains in my stomach that I just couldn't live with. The doctor gave me anti-depresants and anti-acid pills. That was over a year ago now. The pills did nothing for me and the doctor told me the next step was a stomach biopsy. He did no other tests (blood, urine, or anything else)
I was terrified so I did nothing. Well I went to get a job and they had me do a pre-employment physical. That was 6 months ago now and come to find out I had blood in my urine. The physican told me to go and see my doctor. That same doctor said I had a bladder infection and so he put me on antibiotics.
A month later I was in severe pain and was rushed to the emergency room. Since I had the pain in my stomach on the right side, the doctor did a series of tests: x-rays, CT scans, and blood tests. The doctor read the films and decided I had gallstones and wanted to remove my gallbladder that night.
Since I had just gotten a new job, I decided that I would wait and talk to another surgeon. When I did and he read the films, he was surprised to see that I didn't have gallstones. He said I had kidney stones and told me to see a urologist.
After seeing the urologist, I found out that I needed the laser surgery to remove my severe stones. The next week I had my first surgery and stent put in. I had the second surgery 2 weeks later and the stent removed 2 weeks after that.
This past week I had my follow-up appointment and found out that all of the stones had returned. The next day I was in surgery again and the stent was put back in. I have been in severe pain and I am hopeful these stones don't return after this last surgery.
My doctor said that I got these stones during my last pregnancy. The moral of the story is don't always just trust what a doctor says keep pushing and find someone that will help.
My doctor says if my kidney doesn't start functioning properly that loosing my kidney could be a possibility. I just hope and pray that doesn't happen.
