Paula to Lindsay,
It is not in your head. Print out these letters and show them to your hub and doctor. I went through a few doctors before anyone had a clue.
If you hate your OB, I would highly recommend that you ask for a second opinion, and then change OBs.
If you are having contractions, you really should get admitted and get some morphine or something to take the pain away for a while.
I'm not a doctor (not that that seems to matter), but from the sounds of it the UTI is pretty serious or the stones are, and you shouldn't be ignored. The problem is that there isn't much that they can do. From what I've heard from the other girls, a nephrostomy tube is less painful than a stent, though you have to have a bag of urine strapped to your leg. Then again, you couldn't possibly feel less sexy than you do already, so no worries there.
You could have gotten an infection from the stent insertion itself. Are you on antibiotics? Did they do an ultrasound to look for stones? Even if there aren't any stones, the pressure from the baby could be giving similar pain.. probably not as much blood as you have though.
I believe that you should be back in the hospital. If you're having contractions from the pain, it's not good. Of course, a few Braxton Hicks contractions could be starting from time to time, but if the contractions are concurrent with the flank attacks, you need to be watched. The hospital would get into all kinds of trouble if they turned you away and you started preterm labour at home.
If you can't keep water down because of the vomiting, you may need IV fluids (with antibiotics too, just in case) to keep you hydrated or it won't be getting better. Once you're hydrated and doped up, you might be able to drink again.
Does it help not to lie down, or any specific position? It's a tough situation, I don't know if anyone has a cure, but you'll have to get hydrated, drugged for the pain, and stop the contractions. You must be getting a bit frantic, and probably should have someone to take care of you. It definitely isn't in your head, it's in your flank, and don't take no for an answer. Good luck!
