sandra....there are other factors to consider and lots of inspiration to be had. i didn't mention that my fibroids are intramural; within the wall of the uterus, and not pushing into the baby's space too much. that could make a difference in someone's decision to surgery or no surgery.

i have known people who have had fibroids who have had children. i know 2 friends who have had myo while in their early 20s. the fibroids grew back over a 10 yr period and both conceived in their 30s and delivered healthy babies. they also swear they will never go through a myo operation again. i also know a friend who had myo about 4 years ago and she and her husband are struggling to conceive. one of my friends who had the myo and has a baby, her sister also had fibroids. her sister had a baby girl many years ago while carrying a fibroid the size of a grapefruit which was punching into her uterus. her daughter was born healthy althought with a slightly misshapen head (due to pressing against the fibroid), which reshaped itself in due course. the daughter is now 19 years old, simply beautiful and studying to be a pilot.

two other friends had babies 2 years ago. they went to the same oby-gn and were pregnancy partners. let me explain first about friend H. she found out she had fibroids when she was first pregnant. she had a successful delivery, but her doctor pointed out the fibroids were much larger than they thought. she advised her, that since it was assymptomatic, to breast feed for a year, try and have another baby soon after and then stop. that is what she did. on having the second baby, discovered another friend S, was also pregnant. Friend H's fibroid was within the wall, but low down so she had to have a c-section. Friend S's fibroid was high up in the uterus and she could have had a natural delivery, but ended up with a section anyway. Friend S was 42 when she had her baby....she was advised years ago by doctors to have a hysterectomy, and forget about ever having children because of huge fibroids and other problems.. she and her husband conceived naturally, surprising everyone. she had a healthy baby boy, and friend H had a healthy baby girl...both born on the same day at 38 weeks. these people were my inspiration since they were not just statistics to me, but people i knew. there is hope and i am glad that you are a fighter. this last case i will tell you about is not someone with fibroids but nevertheless inspirational. a lady got married at 32, her husband was about 26. she had a miscarriage every year for the first 5 yrs of her marriage. she conceived once more at 36 and had a healthy child. she then went on to have 3 more children, one more in her 30's and the last 2 at 42 and 46. all perfectily healthy and she experienced no more miscarriages. the cause was uncertain. that lady is now in her mid 80s and has outlived her husband and one of her children. age and miscarriages did not stop her, so don't let it bother you. all the best!
