My week old baby boy only nurses for about 5 mins on each br___t....then falls asleep, or just refuses to eat more...then he roots around acting like hes still hungry, but still refuses to nurse...what is wrong? I'm worried he isn't eating enough and I'll have to supplement with formula. Why is he acting this way? Please, anything will help!

As long as he is gaining weight, then I wouldn't worry about supplementing with formula just yet. Some babies nurse very quickly, my ds still doesn't ever nurse for more than about 15 minutes. If he's rooting around like he's hungry but doesn't want to eat, it might mean he's ga__sy. Sometimes it makes a big difference who's holding your lo as well -- my son often THINKS he wants to eat when I'm holding him, lol, but not when his dad is. So see if pa__sing him to someone else makes a difference. At a week old your lo is still learning how to eat and sleep. Ask your doc at the next checkup to make sure that your lo is gaining plenty of weight, and if he IS, then I'd enjoy the short nursing stretches. Good luck!

Yeah enjoy it as long as he is thriving well! My daughter (who is almost 6 weeks) will root on my shoulder or hand when Im holding her, even if she just finished eating. I must smell like food to her! It got annoying before but now I think its cute. As long as he is gainig well I wouldnt worry about it at all.
