Really Need Help

My son is two weeks old and he is beig brestfed. my question is how often should I feed him and for how long. He naps a lot and his naps are long and he's impossible to wake up!! I've tried everything from changing diapers, playing with him etc. but the moment i put him on the brest he falls back asleep. He sleeps usually anywhere between 3 - 4 hours and then nurses for about 30 min. sometimes longer. I try to keep him 20 min. each brest, but some times he never makes it to the other brest. I change him between switching br___ts to make him more alert, but sometimes it doesn't work. At night he usually wakes up anywhere between 2.5 - 3.5 hours and then nurses for about 30 - 40 min. Is this enough? are his naps too long and if so any ideas to keep him awake? I'm getting worried that he's not fed enough, but wouldn't he cry if he were hungry? I don't know, but I'm just worried and in need of input and advice!

Sounds just fine!!! My dd was that way...impossible to wake up!!! In a couple weeks it'll get easier for him to stay awake at the b___st..you can also try a little nose poke, foot tap, cool wash-cloth on the forehead etc...I personally never switched sides until my dd was older and I could tell the b___st was drained...I think it's ok if he doesn't make it to the second b___st...by keeping him on the first one long enough it ensures he's getting enough hindmilk (rich fatty milk). I'm sure you go back for a weight check soon right? That'll give you piece of mind. You may be surprised how much they can gain in two weeks!

Sounds just fine to me. My dd only does one b___st per feeding anyways- You don't have to do both sides a feeding, At this age my ate every 4-6 hours at night and every 2 during the day. Sounds like you are doing just fine.. watch the diaper output but it sounds just fine!!
