Asthma And Pregnancy

Hi. I am 6 wks pregnant and have asthma. My GP took me off my preventers as they are classified as not suitable for pregnancy but the asthma specialist has put me back on them (lung function decreasing too much). He says risks of being off the medication is higher than taking it. It makes sense to me but is one more thing to worry about - was wondering if anyone else is in this position.

I have asthma too, but probably not as severe as you. I've had to use my inhaler from time to time, and my dr said it's fine. Do ask your asthma specialist if there is a different kind of inhaler that would pose less risk. In the end you have to be healthy and looked after first.

The specialist said they are all basically the same but he has put me on the oldest, best known ones which in his experience have not caused any problems with his pregnant patients. So far have only heard good stories which is great. And about 1/3 of all pregnnt women with asthma get better during pregnancy apparently, so here's hoping ....

I have bad asthma too and i can't live without my meds. Im taking singulair and using the inhaler when i need it. Its not the same as the advair i was using but i guess it's considered more safe. U gotta breathe for the baby to breathe

Hi Jen. Is this your first pregnancy? Has it made the asthma any better or worse? I have changed to pulmicort at lower doses than before and also using the inhaler when I need it - usually in the middle of the night when I wake up to pee ...

this is my 2nd pregnancy and i think it's worse this time Because the Advair worked so well and i had to go off of it. I am using my reg. inhailer a bit more too, especially in the middle of the night i wake up & my lungs are tight. My doc said you need to breathe for the baby to be healthy.
