Congested Cervix

I am about 8 weeks and had a pap test. There was some bleeding, and I was told my cervix was congested. Hopefully my results will be ok, but the doc said they may not accurate due to blood. Anyone has this problem? She said not to worry too much, but that it is more congested than it is supposed to be.This is my first pregnancy so naturally everything worries me!

I have never heard of this problem either. Did she say what exactly is going on?

Some spotting is normal during or after a pap, pelvic exam, or even s_x. Your cervix is extremely soft, sensitive, and the blood vessels are swollen so perhaps that's what she meant by a congested cervix? I suppose it could have just been irritated or inflamed.

umm... so I googled congested cervix and got this... "Congested cervix, a polypus or cardiac disease, nor to cases of extra-uterine pregnancy. cases are related in which patients habitually menstruate only when pregnant. That a woman can menstruate and ovulate after fecundation is shown by superfetaion." (An American text-book of Gynecology, medical and surgical c.2, 97) books.google(DOT)com/books?id=ir7bFFD3730C&pg=PA97&lpg=PA97&dq=%22congested+cervix%22+definition&source=web&ots=-wW5T4av-1&sig=kb7qOAwcaWqAhZNJmJvpMHpKMYo Im sure you are going to be fine... I really have no clue what all that stuff means but if the doc isn't worried, then you shouldn't be either :) let us know how it goes... like I said.. Im sure you'll be fine. good luck. -Heather<3

Yes, the blood vessels get swollen and are fairly sensitive during exams and I a__sume also during s_x...d__n! She says it looks a little bit more "congested" than what she usually sees, and since blood gets involved with the pap, it may be tough to get an accurate result. But I meet with her again in 2 weeks, and she says not too worry, so I am just curious, and ofcourse concerned about it. Anyway--will keep u posted--this site is a great support system!

woops--she also said it may be a sign of an infection.

i just remembered tat se also used te term "friable" . So ere is some info: The diagnosis, friable cervix, means that the cervix is easily irritated, usually a result from HPV and other STDs, a colposcopy can usually determine if HPV viruses are the cause. This term means that the cervical tissue is prone to bleeding. Usually testing reveals the presence of HPV viruses or other STDs. Bleeding is typically due to chlamydia or other infections or cervical cancer. sorry, the H on my keyboard was stuck!

ok--more info: 2. The cervix becomes engorged and “friable” during pregnancy. This means that blood vessels in the cervix may be more susceptible to bleeding from minor trauma. Therefore, a pelvic exam by a doctor or the activity of s_xual relations may result in some bleeding, but this in no way indicates any problems with the pregnancy itself. I really hope there isn't that much delay for s_x with me! how depressing.....
