I'm fearful that I may have to have a D&C this week if my u/s doesn't look better than last (no fetal pole). What should I expect ? Do my symptoms stop immediately ? Will I bleed for long ? How many days will I be out ? How horrible is it ?

Don't worry, D&C is not painful, you will be asleep, and there is no bleeding once you are behind it. I had one last year, I lost my baby when I was 9 weeks pregnant, I did not even know, there was no pain or bleeding at all. I found out during my visit. It is sad that you have to go though this, but it is going to be fast and you will feel a certain kind of relief that it is behind you and in few monts you can try to get pregnant again. Best of luck

I just had a D&C on Friday, 11/5. I found out at 12 weeks that there was no fetal pole, just an empty sac. I had no symptoms of miscarriage and still plenty of pregnancy symptoms, so it came as quite a shock. I had pain the night after the surgery, but only very minor over the weekend. It is Monday now and I am back at work - noone here knows. I am still bleeding, but hardly anything makes it to the pad so they say that's normal. The procedure itself was nothing and I have no memory of it. Not being pregnant after 3 months is VERY hard, but I'm getting through it. I'm looking forward to trying again soon - they say I have to wait 2 cycles before trying again. Good luck!

hey dont worry about it. i had a d&c on 11/15 first time being preg. and i was about 11 1/2 wks i am the biggest chicken that i get nervous when they draw blood and though i was scared they do put you to sleep and you wake up not knowing what happened. i bled for a couple of days and the only pain i felt was when i got up from the d&c in the recovery room and i had period like cramps but it was tolerable i went to work the day after and you dont really feel anything youll b alright...

I had my d&c on tues I am bleeding still like a lite period.I was 6 weeks. The reason was I bled so heavy and clotted too much I think it was miscarrage and ended up in the er.Doct. says bleeding could last several days as long as its not heavy not to worry

I just had a D&C recently, after they did the D&C I bled on and off for about a week. its an in and out surgery. you won't be out for more then 2 days. they put you to sleep for the procedure and give you something so you can' t remember what happened. It is not bad at all I promise you. you may be a little crampy but not much. Best wishes. Because I Know what your going through and its hard.

Is a d&c done only when an ultrasound shows no fetal pole? Is it all possible for a pregnancy to survive if a d&c has to be done?

Hey listen everyone...I would HIGHLY recommend looking at the site www.misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com before jumping to geetting a D&C ANYTIME before 10 weeks. There is such thing as a mis-diagnosis, it happens all the time. Just take a look, you might not be sorry. GOOD LUCK and hugs to everyone.

Hi Jenn, I was pregent for two months when KI noticed that i was spotting, so just to be safe i went to the doctors to get check out. They were unable to find the heart beat and my blood levels were going down. They told me that I was going to have a miscarage and that i was going to need a D & C. I was not happy about it. But in the end it turned out alright. There was only a little bit of pain, an the bleeding wasnt real heavy. I only bleed for about a week (give or take). The surgary is very quick if i remember right it only took about 45 mins. You'll have to stay off you feet as much as you can for the first few days. But having just gone through it, it really isn't all that horrible.

I had a D&C done on March 7, 2006.My question is I still haven't had a period since then. It has been 36 days since my d&c. Is this normal?

Neets - April 12

It took 6 weeks for my period to arrive, and it's taken some women months. Try not to worry, it WILL come!

Erin Lee - April 12

Thank you Neets. They had told me that I had an asyst on my left ovary so I thought that it might have something to do with it. But thanks for the info!
