Drugs For Nausea Promethazine

I am 6 weeks 2 days and have an awful stomach virus (my 2 year old had it first). I have been sick for 20 hours and can't get out of bed except to go to the bathroom. My OB called me in some promethazine. But I just did some research on it and it said the causes on the fetus were unknown and probably not to take it if you are pregnant. I only took one pill and don't plan on taking anymore. MY OB knows I'm pregnant and I trust and believe in him 100%. Does anyone know anything about this drug?

I was given fenergon with my last pregnancy for nausea. I know it is different but my son was fine the Dr. said the benifits outway the risk.

All drugs say that- even Zofran and tons of woman take that while they are pregnant me being one of them. OB docs know what drugs have been taken by pregnant woman safely. I wouldn't worry. I take Phenergan and Zofran reguarly....

Phenergan is the brand name of promethazine. It is the same thing. I think phenergan (promethazine) is cla__s c preg. category, meaning like you said the effects are unknown to humans and animals. My doc said its ok when necessary, and I do know allot of women who take Zofran when pregnant (I work in a pharmacy so I know pregnant women take both medications)

Hi! I took Phenegran from weeks 7-10 of this pregnacy....actually this is one of the first days I have been feeling good enough not to take something. I only take half a pill at a time. It takes away the edge of nausea yet does not make me sooo sleepy. I was hospitalized twice because of dehydration so I had no choice. My doctor a__sured me many times that the drug had more of a benefit then risk. Hope you feel better!

I also took promethazine. It really helped me and my doc said it is considered safer than vomiting so much the fetus can't get enough nutrients. I took it regularly as well. I would take it if your vomiting on a daily basis.

Ok, Promethazine crosses the placenta, there is a suggested possible a__sociation with cardiovascular defects in 1st trimester exposure, and reported to cause neonatal respiratory depression and neonatal platelet dysfunction when used in labor. However, I agree that your doctor wouldn't have prescribed it if he didn't believe you need it. The benefits do sometimes outweigh the risks and the last thing you need is to stop eating and become dehydrated. I would probably use it somewhat sparingly and only when I feel I really need it. Other than that, trust your doctor and when in doubt, go to safefetus.com and do a drug search! Good luck to you and have a happy and healthy 9 months!

I have acid reflux and since i have been pregnant it has gotten worse and the worse symptom is nausea so the doctor in the ER prescribed me promethazine and he said it was safe so i hope he's right. I have been taking about 2 or 3 a week for the last 2 or 3 weeks.

Hi redsonya....I saw your post and just wanted to tell you that I had a couple of g/f's that had bad morning sickness when they were pg and they wore those wristbands for motion sickness. They said they worked great! Good luck to you.
