Am 10 wks and 3 days along and had Eggs Benedict for breakfast yesterday at a diner... today read that a. poached eggs not a great choice for a pregnant woman, and b. hollandaise sauce could also be risky b/c it may be made with raw egg. i feel fine so am assuming all is okay... but could I have done harm and not know it? i am kicking myself bigtime.

Gendalee, I am sure you are fine. I think everything in moderation is okay it is just that we like to totally avoid it so that we don't stress out (much like you are now) each time we eat it. Most of today's sauces (like Mayo) which are made with raw eggs are pasteurized. Most eggs are pasteurized too. I would not go around eating raw eggs though but what I am saying is that you are fine. Don't beat yourself up please but since you know you will worry about it, try to avoid foods that you think are risky. It's like the blue cheese thing. We are told not to eat it. But my mom is French and had it almost every day she was pregnant with me. So, please, don't worry.

I agree with Evy. I wouldn't make it a habit of eating eggs benedict/hollandaise sauce. But one serving shouldn't harm you or the baby. I mentioned in an earlier thread on "unsafe food" that everything I've read seems to say that's it's not the occasional serving of something that's bad...it's an excess amt of something that contains something bad (stuff not pasteurized...or mercury) that is harmful. So the dreaded tuna, from what I can tell, is even ok as long as you're not eating 3 cans a day for a week.
