ok, this might be a stupid question but here it goes! I just got a positive hpt and am approx 4weeks preg. I dont know if I call just a regular family practice doctor first, or if I should call the hospital and get in contact with an OBGYN. Im assuming they want a positive result through blood test first before I talk to the PRO. What did you guys do? Are you all using a regular OBGYN? I just dont want to look dumb when I call.

Congratulations- I would call your regular primary care dr. I was lucky, and found out mine also delivers so I don't have to find a ob. If yours doesn't deliver they can refer you to an ob - that way you don't have to choose one on your own. When you call just let them know you had a positive test and you need to set up an appt to start your ob care.

When I was first pregnant, I went to my regular Family doctor. They confirmed the pregnancy, then they referred me to a OB. But I ended up going to a OBGYN that some friends referred. That's another way to go about it.

I started out with my OB-GYN. And I actually changed dr's this time so it was a new experience all the way around. All you have to do is tell them you are pregnant, and they will ask a few questions about when your last period was and will probably see you around 6 to 8 weeks for the first time. I asked lot's of friends who they recommended and got lot's of referrals. The one I picked is GREAT! I never even thought about going to my family dr. because that's just one extra trip and payment you have to make, because you know their going to send you on to an OB-GYN. Hope this helps, Congrats and good luck!!
