I have heartburn at night and have been taking tums everyday now, 2 in the evening. I still feel the heartburn though. I got the mylanta , OB said it's ok...but I don't want to take it everyday bec. of the aluminum! Also I heard ur supposed to refrigerate mylanta? But I looked on the bottle and it didn't say anything about that? Does anyone else have the same problem in the 1sr trimester? What did ur doctor recommend? I've already modified my eating and sleeping habits(elevate the head of the bed).

I forgot to mention--- is it ok to take tums and mylanta together? I got the mylanta ultra.

Well im almost 19 weeks, and im still having heartburn so bad that it makes me want to cry. Literally last friday i thought i was going to have to go to the hospital b/c my acid reflux was so bad that i could'nt breath. The best thing that you can take is Zantac 75. It is ok to take that during pregnancy and it does work. The best thing to do though is to take it about 1 hour before you know that your going to eat and it will keep the heartburn away. Also you have to make sure that you drink plenty of water. There is also an old wives tale about drinking water with a little bit of baking soda in it to relieve pain, but it doesn't work for me. But if you want to use something that does work then i suggest Zantac 75, and you can take up to 2 a day.... Hope that helps

i get heartburn off and on but i found baking soda and water works for me and actulay it isn"t a old wives tale it is amish

Amish Smashish. It IS an old wives tale also. I know my history i am a teacher...

I would venture to guess that there are probably "old, Amish wives" so it could be both! :)

I asked my doc about the zantac since I've used that before and he told me to try not to take it while I'm in the 1st trimester. Baking soda doesn't work for me ----

Kime, I forgot to ask....do u take zantac everyday now? I only have the heartburn at night, so maybe I can take it before bedtime. I have a prenatal appt this Wed. and I will ask the doctor again.

your probably right ginger maybe it an old amish wives tale lol beats me i am a geriatric nurse ( i wouldn"t know all about history although wasn't to bad at in Elementary and secondary school ) and we would give patients alker seltzer which is awsome stuff and taste better then baking soda and water lol but alos think adjusting you diet would probably be a good idea as well but there are some women that suffer from it regardless of what they eat

I've already changed my diet.....not eating much at night and not eating spicy foods. etc.
