See A Hearbeat And Then Have A M C

On Monday I saw the hearbeat for the first time - I'm 7 weeks. The doctor said once you see the heartbeat the chances of miscarriage drop dramatically. Has anyone ever seen the heartbeat and then gone on to miscarry? I'm just still not sold on telling everyone yet but I don't go back to the doctor until I'm 12 weeks.

Your doc. is right they do decrease dramatically. With my first I saw the heartbeat at 7 weeks and then told everyone then spotted for a couple days and was nervous but it turned out just to be spotting and everything was fine. I say after seeing the heartbeat you are 95% safe to tell everyone.

Hi Jennifer - I would hold off til your past 12 weeks just to be on the safe side. Good Luck with everything :)

I have heard the same thing. I think you are more than fine to tell everyone. My close friend had a m/c after the 8th week and they could never find a heartbeat.

I read that once you see the heartbeat via ultrasound, your chances for miscarriage drop to 2%. I saw the heartbeat at about 11.5 weeks so I'm not as worried now.

Jennifer, I would wait. I have had 2 m/c over the past 3 years. The most recent one was in Dec. We saw a strong heartbeat and then exactly one week later there wasn't one anymore. I am now 6 weeks and 5 days and have had brown spotting for 2 weeks now. We saw the heartbeat last week and I am still terrified. I have told no one at all and have no intentions until 12 weeks and there is still a heartbeat....

I think would wait to tell. With me, we had gotten a heartbeat at 6.5 weeks and then when I went back at 8 weeks, the baby already died, no heartbeat was detected. It's sad, but it does happen.

Hi frankschick2001 - Was there a reason you went back to the doctor so soon from 6.5 weeks to 8 weeks? My doctor doesn't need to see me again until 11.5 weeks unless I have any trouble.

My friend miscarried in Dec at 12 weeks. She first seen the heartbeat at 7 weeks and heard it at 11 weeks. So that doesn't always hold true. But if you have been fine so far, with no spotting or anything I would go ahead and tell anyway.

JENIFER: There was no specific reason why I hd gone at 6.5 then 8 weeks. I had low progesterone and was on suppositories and I think he just wanted to keep a close eye on me. He is doing the same with this regnancy and I am grateful for it because most doctors don't want to see you often or early.
