I'm in my 10th week, and when i first got pg, my dr put me on 200 mg of prometrium twice a day, to be taken orally not va___ally. and then a couple weeks into the pg a nurse called me and said to up my dosage by another 200mg for a total of 600mg. i usually research every drug i'm on, but this is the only one i didn't becuase i thought it was natural and shouldn't really cause any problems. I just read that it can cause birth defects, or that it really shouldn't be taken, a lot of confilicting stuff. Does anyone know anything about prometrium? I've been on a pretty high dosage from teh sounds of it, and am scared right now. I plan on calling a nurse when i get some alone time here at work.

Sims i am currently 21 weeks pregnant we did IVF i was on 600mg of prometrium till i was 12 weeks pregnant you will be absolutely fine. I took 400mg in the evening v____ally at bed at 200mg orally at bedtime. Dont freak out everything will be fine. They are only probably gonna keep you on that for a few more weeks till the placenta kicks in at 12 weeks and does the rest the work. Good luck

i feel a bit comforted. but did your dr tell you its an ok does? i take 200mg in the morning, 200 mg in the late afternoon and then 200 before bed. and my dr said to take them orally and that's also freaking me out because i read that it gets in your blood stream and gets to the baby and causes these birth defects. i'm only on it this week and next, i need to see my dr asap....this is scaring me.

SIMS - my RE would not have prescribed me anything that could possibly have done harm. Dont read everything on the internet it will scare you. Also i am living proof its all ok. I have had my NT scans part 1 in the 1st tri and part 2 in the 2nd tri and all the testing for cystic fibrosis. and downs syndrome. My little boy is perfectly normal and healthy. Plus with doing IVF i was also doing progesterone injections every night.

Its an ok dose i promise. Like i mentioned you are only on it for a few weeks because the placenta will kick in. Which by what you mentioned your doctor is only keeping you on it for another week or so. I know lots of girls that have had to take these higher dosages they are all fine.
