Hi, I have noticed that alot of you have already been for ultrasounds quite early in your pregnancy. I was wondering how you managed to get the doctor to send you for one. I am 9 weeks pregnant with my 4th and would like to have one for peace of mind but have a hopless Dr. I have had 2 appointments with her already and feel like nothing has been done. She didn't confirm my pregnancy, she hasn't checked things like weight or blood pressure and hasn't felt the size of my uterus. I am sure all of these things were done from the get go with my other pregnancies! The only thing she has done is sent me for blood tests, even then she didn't tell me if everything is okay, she just printed out the results and sent me home with them(as if I can interpret the results!) I know I probably sound like I am one big whinger but I just want to know that everything is okay. I have to book in for my 1st hospital appointment soon so maybe I'll just stick with the hospital DRs. Anyone else had really c__ppy Drs? Any suggestions on how to get an ultrsound?I won't relax about this pregnancy until I know all is well!

i got my first ultrasound at 8wks but that was only because i didnt't know the day of my last period so they did an ultrasound to tell me my due date. i know what you mean though worrying if everything is ok i ordered a doppler just so i could hear the heart beat whenever. good luck i hope you get your ultrasound soon.

I got an ultrasound at 5 weeks and one again at 6, because I complained to my doctor about my spotting.

Thanks for your replies. I have just booked my 1st hospital appointment for the 19th of July so I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens from there, hopefully they will send me for an ultrasound to confirm my dates.

I had my first ultrasound at 9.5 weeks because my dr. couldn't find the heartbeat. Good luck at your appt! :)

Had one at 9 weeks to check my dates, but with our first baby, I didn't have an ultrasound until I was 17 weeks along. We heard her heartbeat with a doppler at 10 weeks. My next appointment with this pregnancy is next week and I'll be 11 weeks so I imagine we'll be able the heart beat. I did rent a doppler with our daughter and it was so nice to hear her little heart beating every day.

I guess I'm just a little frustrated because I have no idea if my little bean is ok. I'd be happy at this stage even just to hear the heartbeat or to know that my uterus size is right for being around 10 weeks, any confirmation is better than nothing! The only thing I have been offered is the ultrasound that checks for downs syndrome and this costs AU$120. I have been told that it isn't that accurate, so I don't see the point of getting it done. I'll keep you updated on how I go and thanks all once again for your replies : )

wow i feel lucky... I get a sonogram at every visit, I am 12 weeks and have had 3 sonograms , I go back to the Dr in 2 weeks and get another one.. I wonder why my Dr does that ??? I am not high risk an she is not a high risk Dr

the key is to have a dr who has in house u/s!! most dr office cannot afford to have them and most insurances only pay for two/ pg. Drs who have them are able to run u/s every visit and charge insurance differently. I found a ob center, where alot of ob share a office so that they can afford to have u/s in every room. just do some research before selection a dr.

Hi Nikki and Aggie, just wondering where you guys are from? I am from Melbourne Australia and it seems that the standard here is two ultrasounds, one for dating and another at 20 weeks. Maybe it's different for different areas. I am still crossing my fingers that the hospital will send me for one, all I can do is wait and see I guess.

Texas, I would still try to find a dr who has u/s in his office. you never get 'sent' for one they just do it right there at every visit. good luck

Hey Aggie03, Are you in College Station, Texas?

RMC - July 3

Wow, Nikki 822... your doctor does them at every visit? I have had 2, but that's just because of my spotting and low hcg. I, unfortunately, have on of the doctor's that "send" you away for the ultrasound. I wish I would've found one that does it in the office.
