What Happens In A Miscarriage

I'm about 6 weeks and only just today, I've started having some slight discharge, it's light brownish in colour but not red. And I'm not really in any pain, maybe just a slight twinge now and again. Is this a sign of miscarriage? Oh I really hope it isn't. But if it is, how long does a miscarriage last and is there any pain?

I don't think you have to worry. I had pains at 6 weeks too. Lots of stretching going on during that time. I've read other woman had some discharge brown in color. I had tons but it was mostly clear/yellowish. I wouldn't worry at all. Talk to you doc about it at your next appt if you're worried. My mayo clinic pregnancy books says it's common.

I had cramping and brownish discharge, with a little pink now and then, from weeks 5-7. So far everything is fine! as long as the cramps don't get severe, or the discharge red, I wouldn't worry too much.

Oh yes, miscarriage. I don't know about everyone else who has had one, but the one I had a year ago was horrible. It was like a really bloody period with lots of clots. I felt like my insides were being raked out with a pitchfork - it was the most pain I've ever been in in my life.

I'm just over 7 weeks and have experienced the same thing today. Only a little pinkish/brownish discharge with no pain as such. I'm very worried. I hope that it isn't anything serious!

I don't want to alarm any of you but you need to call your doctor to make sure it is nothing. I also had slight pinkish/brownish discharge and it wasn't a good sign for me I ended up having a miscarriage. I didn't have any pain or craming and only brownish discharge. I was about 7 weeks 2 days and my baby stopped growing at about 5 1/2 weeks. Miscarriage is your bodies way of rejecting a pregnancy due to some type of problem. Most early miscarriages are due to chromozone problems. Anyway try not to worry but a call to your doctor would be worthwhile they'll do an ultrasound to make sure everything is ok. Good luck.

I agree with J - call the doctor. The only reason why I have stopped stressing about it so much is because I have had two u/s to check on things. I realize things could still go wrong, but I take comfort in the fact that it is so far so good! My second u/s was at 7w3d, size and heartbeat were normal. I'll be having a third next week - at 9w6d.

Hello everyone - I thought I was almost 10 weeks. Had light bleeding start this am with no pain. Saw doc early afternoon - cervix ok and uterus 'ok' but no heartbeat. Went for v u/s and she said baby was size for 6 weeks - crown to rump. No heartbeat could be detected. Supposed to return for u/s in 1 week but the wait is intolerable already. She said poss. baby could have died at 6 weeks and miscarriage is just starting now! But no pain yet?? 10 hours so far. Anyone else had a similar experience?

Kate-- I had the same experience and my end result was not good. My situation was the same 10w but fetus 6 wks. Started spotting and did v u/s - no heartbeat. This was my first pregnancy so not knowing what to do I went home to miscarry on my own. HUGE!! mistake. I recommend to everyone not to do this. I have since had a 2nd miscarriage, had a D&C. Went a lot better given the circ_mstances not easy. Now pregnant for the 3rd time and scared to death that it will happen again. From the time I started spotting with the first miscarriage, that was on a Monday evening. The bleeding increased on Wednesday and Thursday--lots of cramping by then. On Friday I pa__sed what I believe was the sac. My inside's felt like they had been ripped out and shoved back in. Kate- I will keep you in my prayers. I hope you get good news.

Misty - March 11

I'm not a doctor but from what I heard with 1 in 5 pregnancys you have a chance of bleeding. Once you bleed you have a 50/50 chance. So there isn't much you can do but pray and wait.

kate - March 12

Thank you for your response robin. Unfortunately that night the bleeding worsened then cramping started (horrible) and I pa__sed the tissue around 2am. After that the pain eased and now it's just like a period. The doc told me I didn't need to come in since I seemed to have pa__sed it naturally. Will go in Wed to make sure. We're both having a very tough time with it but will try again. Who knew a loss so early could feel this bad. Thank you for your thoughts though. It certainly helps to know I'm not alone in this. Good luck with #3 - it is a charm remember. My thoughts are with you.

doesnt' sound like a m/c. When I had one, it bled red a lot (I filled two maxi pads in an hour) and had crampin gthat was like a severe period pain.

Thanks for all your sharing. I haven't had any more discharge since then and hope that everything is going well. I've noticed that many people on this forum are from US and it seems that you get regular scans even at very early stages of the pregnancy. I'm from UK and we we don't usually get our first scan till about 12-13 weeks so i hope everything will be ok till then. Oh the time when I had the discharge, I think that would have been when I would have ovulated. Do people still get discharges around the time they're supposed to be ovulating?

i have 4 children and im expecting my 5th i did have one miscarrage and it was very painfull to me it was just like labor but the discharge dosent mean miscarrage i had the same with 2 of my girls and they are fine

N - March 14

The only thing to wish you is the best. I have miscarried 3 times, every time different., but never like what you have explained so rest up, dont get active and let the little guy in ther fight as best he can. You and your future family will be fine, no matter what it takes

alisa - April 7

i would like to know what happens to you body and the baby when you have a miscarriage?

Denise - April 15

The brownish discharge is what they consider "old blood." Which probably means that you were going to get your menstral cycle prior to conception. As long as it is brown and NOT red you will be fine. Red blood/discharge may indicate that there is something happening...Best wishes and May God Bless you and your child!
