Would You Call The Doctor

Ok, typically I can answer these questions for myself, but lately I have become so much of a worrier & call my dr. for everything that I am sure they think that I am crazy! :-) So, I figured I would get some opinions first! Last night around 11:30 or so I woke up with horrible stomach pains...& by horrible I mean I thought I was going to pass out from the pain...it was awful. Here comes the TMI...I sat on the toilet for just over two hours...I wasn't sure if I needed to throw up or have diarrhea. Well, I never did throw up, I had a fair amount of diarrhea, but even that didn't alleviate the pain. Finally, around 1:30, I went back to bed & I think I fell asleep around 2. I have had my fair share of stomach aches & none of them have ever even come close to comparing to this one...I still don't feel all that great today. I'm wondering if maybe I just have a stomach bug (which I hope to God I will never have again), or if it's something more serious? So, should I call my OB or should I stop worrying & not call?? Thanks for the advice!

Hello Meg! I wouldn't call the doctor just yet. Did you take tums? I've had that happen and after I take Tums it settles my stomach a litte. diarrhea is normal during pregnancy. Have you been drinking enough water? Maybe you were getting cramping type pains from lack of water? Do you have a fever? If your still feeling sick by thursday I would call, But for right now it might just be morning sickness, cramping/stretching, and dehydration all rolled into a big ball. From my first pregnancy I remember I felt like i had the Flu 24/7, turned out it was just bad morning sickness.

also how far along are you? What kind of stomach pain is it? I remember I had stabbing pains in my stomache when i was around 28 weeks, turned out my uterus was just sore from my daughter kicking me so much.

Sounds like your bowels were moving there...:-) I sometimes had horrible stomach pains even before I got pregnant...and it was because I was ga__sy...and the...whats a less crude word to use here?...uh, excrement was just making its way through the intestines and out of my body! Diarrhea is normal because your body is getting rid of toxins that are harmful to the baby. I have gotten those pains while pregnant and I just needed to go!!! I DID have diarrhea and vomiting at the same time once when I was 6 weeks...and I was vomiting so violently I started bleeding...although I believe it just aggravated a tear I had in between my uterus and placenta. See, I was bleeding the day before that...but now i'm starting another story, and don't really need to! If you're still worried and keep havign the stomach pains and diarrhea, drink lots of water, keep yourself hydrated, and express your concern to the doc. It can't hurt! :-)

faye, I did end up taking some Rolaids, it's all I could find. I hope they are ok to take! It helped a tiny bit. I have had my fair share of diarrhea throughout this pregnancy (I'm 10 weeks) but it was nothing like last night. I drink at least 70 ounces of water a day...I think that is a decent amount? No fever. For the past several weeks I've felt yucky...no vomiting, just not much of an appet_te, but again, I've never had any pain a__sociated with any of it...especially stomach pain that continued for over 2 hours. The pain was above my belly b___ton & it was intense, like sharp shooting, continual pains...if that helps. At times it also felt like my stomach was on fire. That was fun too! :-) Thanks for the help!

I had a dull achey pain in my stomach all last night that kind of worried me... but no blood or anything. During the day I had sharp twinges on my lower left side of my pelvis region...and as I type I'm getting them again. Its starting off dull. I wonder if your uterus is just expanding and stretching??? I think thats whats going on with me...

Yeah newlywed0915 that sounds like stretching, when I sit for a while then move I get this stabbing pain in my side, scares the living c___p out of me because im not expecting it lol. Meg rolaids are good to take, great source of calcium too. I went through about three bottle of rolaids on my last pregnancy. That stabbing pain your describing is what I had from when my daughter was kicking my uterus so much. But your not far along for that yet. Maybe its everything stretching because I know i get sharp pains every once in a while. If its still happening I would write down how intense it is, how often and the time. Thats going to be the first thing that the doc will ask you if you call.

this is my first pregnancy and i am not having a great time digestively speaking either. i need to eat all the time to alleviate the dizziness and queasiness, but then it usually turns into diarhea. i've een having stomach cramps that wake me up at night, too. but it's usually gas. i would try going off meat for a while. meat is the hardest thing for our bodies to digest, and my life has been much better in the past couple of days since i haven't had any. just make sure you get protien from cheese and such. but if the unbearable pain comes back, i would definitely call the doc...especially if you see blood in the potty.

Sounds like a stomach virus or maybe you ate something bad. Keep in mind at 10 weeks your uterus is way below your belly b___ton. If you were having pains above there they were most likely gastrointestinal pains and spasms. Keep well hydrated and eat bland for a day or two.

Meg, it NEVER hurts to call the doctor, you are not bothering him, and he does not think you are crazy. I'm sure he has seen and heard it all. He is there to care for you and your unborn child and that includes giving you peace of mind when you need it. You are probably fine, but if it is bothering you enough to post then it is bothering you enough to call the doctor! If it were me I would call.

even with all the advice i would still see your doctor and i have had the exact same problem i was on the toilet for about 3hours cause i sat there for an hour with nothing happening but in serious pain i swear it felt like some one stab me in the stomach 5 times and left me there to die and then i spent the next 2 hours cleaning my system out the pain after wards was not to bad i gather it would have been from the excruciating pain before .hope you feel better

Hi ladies...thanks for all of the advice! I actually did end up calling my OB, but unfortunately I didn't hear back from him. I called pretty late in the day, so I'm a__suming he didn't get the message & will call tomorrow. For the most part, I was feeling better throughout late morning & early afternoon, but I was in 8th period (I teach high school), & I thought that I was going to have to run out of the room because I started getting the awful stabbing pains again. After that, I thought that maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to call. Like some of you said, being an OB, they have to be used to crazy, pregnant women! :-) It's now about 7, & I finally ate something again, & for the time being, I feel ok....not great, but not like I want to pa__s out from being in pain either! I'll keep you all updated...thanks again!
