Yolk Sac Not Round

my daughter in law went for her 1st sono. today and is freaking out. First she doesn't know exactly when her last period started so they are telling her she is 8 weeks by the date she gave them and they are telling her the baby is small and the yolk sac is not round. I highly believe she isn't as far along as they think and that is why it is small but can anyone let me know how they are doing that their yolk sac wasn't round either?

I researched this a bit and found that if a yolk sac is pretty misshapen it can be an indicator of problems. If it is oblong, or tear shaped, it is entirely normal. I don't know if this helps any but I wish her the best.

My son says the sac was bean shaped so I'm hoping it is okay. Thank you.

it realy depends on the angle of the u/s. I asked my doctor that when I was having my u/s, and she said it depends. As long as the size is right, and the baby is measure up to date, everything is fine.

I'm finding out that the first person she saw was a midwife and the women told her all this stuff and then proceed to tell her the options if in a week the baby hasn't grown....etc. no wonder the girl is freaked right out. We are convinced that she isn't as far along as she thought and she will be seeing a real OB on Tuesday and I am being positive that everything will be okay.

Yeah she's probably just a bit off on her dates. In the early stages, it can make all the difference in the development.
