Basal Temps

Hey, Does anyone know for sure if the BBT's are supossed to spike when you ovulate and then stay up after you ovulate until either you get your AF or you test positive for pregnancy? I have been having trouble ovulating, my Dr. was a spike this month but then after my temps are all over the place. So I am just not sure. Taking Clomid & Metformin since I have PCOS. Any thoughts?

Your bbt, probably ranges from 97.2 to 97.7 before you ovulate.During the 2 or 3 days after you ovulate it should rise between 0.5 and 1.6 degrees, which lasts at least until your next period.

Thanks Rhonda, that is kind of what I thought but mine have been going down not up which would make me think I didn't ovulate. However my Dr. looking at my chart seems to think I did because I had a spike. I asked him point blank and he said no that wasn't always the case.

when you start your af,your temps will drop back down.

that's the problem they never really went up. So I am not sure that I really ovulated.

From what i was told,no temp dip/spike can mean that that their was no ovulation for that cycle. But it could mean you have a very short LP.

I acutally had two dip spikes but my Dr. thinks the one around day 17 was the one...I just wasn't convinced because after that my temps stayed pretty low...still waiting for AF but I ususally have long cycles. I naturally don't ovulate so I have been taking Clomid & Metformin and I hoped that combination worked. Thanks

Maybe you could try taking metformin by itself? How long have you been taking them both for?

Carragh - June 3

I did that first. I have been taking Metformin for 4 months and clomid just this month. I have hope the combination will work. That is what I got pregnant on the first time. We are trying for two. It just gets really frustrating with my temps all over the joint as well as my cervial mucas...I guess me and DH will just have to Bed all the time!

Sometimes it can take a few months, after starting clomid so just try and hang in there. You can never have to much bd.

thanks for all you advice! I will keep trying bd and all.

your welcome & good luck.
