I hope someone can help me!!!! Last Friday I took a positive pregnancy test! Of course, my husband and I were thrilled, but I immediately became concerned. On Dec. 29th, I had foot surgery. I have been taking Darvocet N-100 and Vicodin on and off since then for pain control. I called my OBGYN today and got a humdinger of a nurse who soke with terminology of, "ending the pregnancy", my "drug use", and "20% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage." I demanded that my MD call me back, which he did within 20 min. I did feel better after taliking with him. He mainly said that it would have been a problem with implantation, which obviously it isn't, since I have a positive EPT. Still....I am so scared. I do not have an appt. until March!!!! Can ANYONE give me words of wisdom???? I would be forever greatful!!

I would stop taking the drug immediately (since they are for pain control only it should be ok to stop them but you might want to mention it to your doc). While you certainly at this pt can't do anything about them possibly increasing the chance of a m/c due to improper implantation (which in all likelihood is just fine) you certainly do not want to keep taking them. Once the placenta and such is established some drugs cross the placenta and get into the babies system. However the placenta and umbilical cord do take time to form so depending on how far along you are, the baby may not have gotten any of the drugs into it's system at all. In regards to the specific drugs I do not know much about their specific effect on a baby and pregnancy. If I was you I'd do some online research. As far as the Vicodin goes do some research on it specifically but also on the individual drugs that make it up (Vicodin is a combination of acetaminophen and hydrocodone. Acetaminophen is the same thing that Tylenol is so it should be safe but if you're looking for a bit of info you may want to actually look up hydrocodone as well). There are a few good sites for drugs and you can probably do a Google search. I use rxlist (add the w's and the dot-com), the National Library of Medicine (can't add the url as this site wont let me but do a search and it should come up then go to the link on the rt side of the pg for MEDLINEPLUS). Anyways, hope that helps some. Good luck
