For the most part a miscarriage in the first trimester is due to some genetic abnormality. If that's the reason there is not much you can or should do.... its just nature. There are other reasons much less common: Infection, exposure to toxins, immune response, and your anatomy. Nothing you can do about immune response if it's your first. It's not easy to diagnose and doctor will only look at the possibility. Your anatomy should also have been diagnosed prior to this, so not much you can do about that either. What you can control is exposure to bacteria and toxins. Avoid raw meats, deli meats, and un-pasteurized dairy, don't change cat litter; use an air filter, filter your water. Also avoid lifting heavy weights (anything over 10lbs), extreme sports, hot baths. Use ventilation when using cleaners, and avoid inhaling insecticides. Finally another reason for miscarriage is cysts, but I would also expect this to have been diagnosed by now. Congratulations and good luck!

I was told that there is nothing you can do to stop a miscarrage when it is happening and from experience I know all you can do is wait. Good luck and congrats.

Everything BBK said and check w/ your doctor/midwife/nurse/hospital for a list, I'm sure they'll have one to give you! Good luck, and congratulations!!
