Embarrassing Question

I have a question about my nipples. I plan on br___tfeeding but I don't know if I can. here's the problem, I can literally pull out pieces of my nipple!! I'm scared that while nursing, a piece may come out and s/he could choke on it!! Does anyone else have this problem?

I cannot say that I can pull out any peices of my nipples (I'd think that would really hurt!!!) But..I am sure they can't possibly be big enough for your baby to choke on so I wouldn't worry about it.

what's so crazy is that it doesn't hurt...it's just like little chunks come out...I know that this sounds nasty...think how I feel...I'm too embarra__sed to ask my doc about it.

I would be too. But....that is what doctors get paid so much for. Plus, they get asked funky a__s questions all the time. Just suck it up the next time you see your doc and force the question out, there could be aome reason this is happening and it shouldn't be. I really don't know. I have never heard f this before, but, I am sure you are not the only woman who has ever had this happen to them so your doctor should know something. Besides....everything is embarrising to talk about with your doctor. :-)

I know what you are talking about, unfortunately I am only 12 wks and can't offer an answer regarding b___st feeding but if your talking about little pieces of skin that flake up near the nipple I get that too.

Would also suggest asing your doctor, but if you are totally opposed to that idea-call your hospital's education office and speak to the b___stfeeding expert. Or, call the local La Leche League rep and ask about that. You can do that anonomously. Besides, if you nurse, you'll probably end up asking one of these ladies even more embara__sing questions.

Thanks girls...I think I will call the La Leche League. Like you said, I can be annonymous. Does nursing hurt? Have never done before.

I can very sadly say that for me at least it was very painfull while I was getting "broken in". Not really looking forward to repeating it. But I think it is worth it. Just take it one day at a time in the beginning. That is the only way I made it through the first month.

The first month was also very painful for me too. It's not painful now; my little girl is 8.5 weeks. When I had my baby the nurse came in and made sure I was b___stfeeding correctly. They also send you to a b___stfeeding consultant and they actually inspect your nipples. Not with a magnifying gla__s or anything but they will definitely notice if there's problem and will do what they can to help you. In the end your baby's health is more important than anything so make sure you talk to someone about it. Good luck. :)

This is a very good question! I'm only about half way through pregnancy and my nipples aren't flaking but are already so painful, I was wondering whether it would be possible to b___st feed. I guess the message I'm getting here is, yes, but it's worth it if you persevere. I'll just have to grit my teeth and bear it I suppose.
