Floating The River While Pregnant

I am 12 weeks pregnant. We rented a cabin on the Guadalupe River for Memorial Day. Is it safe and ok to float down the river on an inner-tube? Will the river be too cold for the baby? Is the water too rough? Can I get an infection from river water? Thanks.

I don't think I'd worry about it. Call and ask your doc if you're concerned.

you should be fine

As long as you don't find yourself in a situation where water could be forced up into your uterus you should be fine (like could easily happen while water skiing). I wouldn't think you are going to be going down to many rapids in an innertube!

To Mattie: You will be going through about 4-5 rapids but they are not bad, you do have the option to get out and walk around them though. I will let you know the water is always cold, it is usually around 54 degrees on 4th of july weekend so figure it from there. If you don't want to do a tube, they always have raft (canoe) rentals as well! Hope you have a good time!

Thank for your comments. I will ask my doctor to make sure, but I think it will be fun and safe!
