Gastroenteritis During Pregnancy

I'm just wondering whether anyone has experienced a really bad stomach bug or gastroenteritis while pregnant. I'm just worried as my sister has it and I was out with her yesterady (which wasn't wise of me really) and today i feel a bit sickly and I'm wondering if it's possibly the start of gastroenteritis. I really hope it isn't as I don't know what affects it could have on the baby. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

As far as I know, the main thing you have to worry about if you get gastroenteritis is that you will become dehydrated. This happened to me once and I was hospitalized overnight just to be monitored and receive fluid via IV. If you throw up for more than 6 hours, call your doctor

True enough. You can catch anything while pregnant. Some women avoid everything that's going around during their entire pregnancies while others catch everything under the sun. Gastroenteritis is usually nothing major and women usually get through it just fine. If a pregnancy couldn't survive a bunch of puking no one would last through morning sickness! The time to be concerned is if you suspect it is food poisoning or if there are other symptoms that lead you to believe it is an infection of some sort, not just a bug. Of course, you should always give your doctor a heads up if you become ill while pregnant!
