I'll be 12 weeks pregnant in 3 days. I've heard that you are supposed to wait until after 12 weeks to color your hair...3 days isn't really going to make a difference is it??

i have a hairdresser who coloured his wifes hair throughout her pregnancys. apparently it cant affect the baby and its rumor. im not sure if thats actually true but thats what a professional told me

There is not any hard evidence that it does hurt or doesn't hurt anything. It's up to you when you do it, the first trimester is the touchiest about certain things. Also if you do get it done, high lights are better because then you don't have chemicals soaking into your head, it's just on your hair. : ) My hair is in dire need to be done, but this is not a risk I am willing to take, my baby is by far more important than how I look. If you'd like to know more about it, try googling it. It might be better to do some research, than take people's opinions. Not that they're all bad. Good Luck.

My dr. told me that she believes it's just a myth. But who knows. If your a little concerned maybe you can find out the difference in brands, maybe a creme or organic haircolor might be better. I'm pretty sure highlights would be the safest as they don't penetrate the scalp.

My doctor said it was okay - i did highlights 4 days before 12 weeks. She told me to keep a fan circulating to keep as much fumes as possible away. And to stay hydrated the entire time. I took big bottle of water. Also, you can use one of those masks like nurses or nail technicians use. That will keep out some of the fumes. But I definitely did get sicker while I was there. Had to have hairdresser stop 3 times so I could be sick. Fumes definitely gave me a headache and nausea. Usually doesn't bother me at all.

I AM ALSO A HAIRDRESSER AND IT'S A MYTH.

IT IS NOT A MYTH!!!!!!!!! It has been PROVEN in labs that hair dye is in your urine after you dye your hair- which means----- DUH---- that the hair dye has gone through your system. The part that is questionable are the affects on the baby. No real studies have been done to figure out what affects it has. Highlights are ok because the dye does not get in the scalp and into your system. Everyone needs to stop saying this is a myth- it is not. It's the affects on the baby that nobody knows. Me personally- I don't want my baby getting hair dye in their system when they are so little and vulnerable. That's me though. So, I will be waiting until the second trimester!

KER LISTEN TO WHOM YOU WANT TO LISTEN BUT YOUR SKIN IS WATERPROOF, NOTHING CAN PENETRATE YOUR SKIN AND GET INTO YOUR SYSTEM, OR WE WOULD HAVE A BUNCH OF PEOPLE IN THE ER BEING POISONED BY HAIRDYE.
