I AM 26 YEARS OLD AND PREGNANT FOR MY 3rd CHILD. I JUST GOT MY BLOOD WORK RESULTS BACK SAYING I HAVE AN UNDER ACTIVE THRYOID. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEM WITH THIS BEFORE. I HAVE TO FOLLOW UP WITH A SPECIALIST THIS WEEK. ANY INPUT WOULD BE APPRECIATED

I've had a slightly underactive thyroid for a couple of years now. The doctor didn't bother to treat me for it because it was subclinical (very minor) and I didn't have any symptoms. But my OB decided to put me on synthroid once I started trying to get pregnant. I don't think you neccesarily need to see a specialist. I've heard that there are a decent number of women who have subclinical hypothyroidism and don't know it until they're pregnant and have their blood work done. Your OB should prescribe synthroid for you and your levels should be checked every trimester to make sure they're adequate.
