I wondered why are you throwing your own shower? I would not spend nearly that much. Make the food or have everyone bring a dish. Also you don't really need a DJ for music just plug in a stereo. As far as a tent and chairs and stuff personally I thought someone was supposed to throw you a shower and I certainly would not spend 400 bucks to do it.

Ask for help. Maybe your mom or dad or his parents can pitch in. I am sure you'll find a friend more then willing to help with all the planning and work. Don't get to stressed. There's nothing wrong with throwing your own party. Good luck.

I've been to beautiful outdoor showers... everyone brought a dish and a lawnchair. The music was a stereo plugged in. No tent... just have another location possibility in case of rain. It is completely your choice whether to make it expensive or not... It can be a wonderful shower without all the fancy party stuff.

Does anyone you know have any of those EZ-ups awnings? You could borrow a couple of those...

WELL NO ONE HAS OFFERD TO THROW THE SHOWER SO MY HUSBAND AND I STARTED PLANNING IT FEW OF MY FRIENDS LIVES FAR SO I KNOW THEY WONT DO IT MY HUSBAND FAMILY ARE CHEAP AND MY PARENTS HAVE DONE MORE THEN ENOUGH FOR ME SO I DONT WANT TO ASK THEM FOR ANYTHING PLUS MY DAD IS GETTING ME THE BABY'S CRIP BUT I UNDERSTAND IT WOULD OF BEEN NICE FOR SOME ONE TO THROW THE BABY SHOWER FOR ME, BUT ITS NOT HAPPENING. WHAT GETS ME MAD IS THAT I KNOW THAT THERE'S NO NEED FOR A DJ BUT MY HUSBAND MOTHER IS INSISTING WE SHOULD GET IT SHE'S SO NOISEY SHE FIGURES IF YOU WORK YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO AFFORED IT, I DONT KNOW MAYBE WE SHOULD WASTE THE MONEY ON THE BABY THINGS OUR SELF BUT IT IS A TRADITION AND I DONT WANT TO REGRET IT LATER ON

Are you close with a mother, sister, or close friend? I would say something to someone like hello noone has offered to throw me a shower and my feelings are really hurt. You shouldn't have to drop a dime on your own shower this is your special time and shame on your family or friends!

MY COUSIN'S LIVE OUT OF STATE AND I DONT HAVE ANY SISTER TWO BROTHER'S I MEAN I DONT MIND PALNNING THE PARTY IF NO ONE CAN THE THING IS I DIDNT KNOW KNOW HOW EXPENSIVE IT IS. DID YOU GUYS HAVE A BUGET ON YOUR BABY SHOWER ARE PLANNING TO HAVE ONE

I don't understand...Is this an American custom or ...? Why have one when you can't afford it? Why have everyone on the block to your party when you cannot afford it? Why listen to someone's wishes who don't wanna help financially anyway? Have 10 of the closest people over, inside your house, with stereo music...you get the idea. Why sweat it and suffer? Seems like this baby shower is doomed already if it's harbored with worries, bitterness, and doubts. Not to mention, putting a hole in your wallet!!! Is it vanity...? Or...WHY???

Your baby shower is not your wedding day. you dont need to get fancy and spend alot of money. I am having a besutiful baby shower and its just some flower arrangments, cla__sy Orderves (SP), drinks, baby games and thats it. People do not go to a baby shower to shove food in thier face.

Most baby showers I've been to are inside people's houses and they just have finger foods. No music. Just visiting and then the games then presents and snacking. You can print fun games off the internet like crossword games and stuff. Then go to the dollar store for simple little prizes. Nobody goes to a baby shower expecting to come home with great prizes so don't worry. The day is about you, not them, so don't feel like you'll hurt anyone's feelings. I think for mine we might rent the VFW for $50 and get a cake and do a big roaster of sloppy joes and finger foods. I'd love to have it outside so we might do that too or even clean out your garage and have it in there in case weather gets bad. Don't overdue it. Plug a radio in if people want to listen to music. To be quite honest, a lot of people like to get out of there quickly. Not to be rude, but everyone I went to a shower with was like, okay let's go, she opened our present! It's nothing against the person, just some people don't like parties, so don't go overboard to impress anyone. They'll just be happy to have a pop and some hors de vours and see you open their present and go home. The last shower I went to it was crammed in this little tv room and I didn't know anyone really and we just had trail mix and pop to eat! I was one of the first to leave!

im just kind of curious where you live, i could never imagine being 8=9 months pregnant and having to get dressed up and be out in the heat

Wow, I can't believe you're willing to invest $400.00 to throw a babyshower. And for what, to impress people who aren't considerate enough to throw one for you???? Seems to me like you should spend the $$$ on your baby and skip the shower. I may get some bitter remarks for saying this, but..... I don't agree with you hosting your own shower. It's kind of taboo. Someone should be hosting it for you in your honor. If your friends/family don't step up, skip it. Instead, have a small gathering of family and friends AFTER the baby arrives. Have a no frills hamburger/hotdog cookout. Have everyone invited bring a side dish and their own beer. I promise you people will enjoy it more, and will be much more relaxed, plus they'll be able to ooh and ahh over the baby. Baby showers aren't all that fun, they're filled with awkward moments of boredom and silly games. Ladies, please don't lash out on me for expressing my opinions. :o)
