Is Tap Water Harmful To The Baby

Hi I have been drinking a lot of water throughout my pregnancy so far. I never even thought that it might be dangerous to drink tap water, which I have been doing. Someone told me though that tap water contains lead, which can be harmful to the unborn baby and I should try and buy bottled water. Has anyone else heard this? I'm 28 weeks so I think it's a bit late to realise this now!

tap water is usually just fine. you can call your city's water department and get them to mail you a read out on water contaminates in your area. in my city, if the water gets to a dangerous level it's on the news and there are notices all over town. if there was a problem you'd probably know about it. if your house is hooked up to a well then talk to your doctor.

Nothing conlusive has been found, but tap water does contain lead in most places, and lead is harmful to all. It's a good idea to either get a good filtration system (reverse osmosis is a good type), or at the very least a basic charcoal filter. Bottled water works too, but can get expensive.

Run the tap water(cold and hot) for 5 minutes before drinking. The water should be fine. That is what my babies doctor told me to do. Just in case you are worried about lead. Good luck
