Medical System Is Messed Up

What do you all look for in an obstetrician? Or are you looking more for a mid-wife or birthing center birth? Sometimes I feel like the doctors are cold and trying to over-medicalize giving birth...do any of you feel this way? What about low income women who don't have any access to many options because of lack of insurance? It seems like these are the women who tend to need the MOST guidance because they are sometimes young and alone, yet they receive the worst care. I wonder what the medical professionals feel about this discrepancy...

Low income women actually have access to plenty of insurance, a__suming you live in the U.S.. There is a special Medicaid program for low income pregnant women that will cover all the costs of pregnancy. I don't know the whole details on it but I do know a few women that have used it and it paid for a midwife along with an OB and a 3 day hospital/birthing center stay. I'm pretty sure it won't pay for water birth or anything like that but it at least takes care of all that's necessary to have a reasonably comfortable pregnancy/birth. Personally, I'm considering looking for a midwife myself as I'm also wanting a bit more of a "human touch" so to speak. Right now I just go to one of those big OB clinics and they just seem too busy to realize focus on you as a person.
