hi just wondering what a membrane sweep is and what does it include?

Imagine putting your thumb in the center of a doughnut and moving your finger around the outside of it. I think that is pretty much what the doctor does to your cervix. I have only had it once and it hurt like hell, but it probably isn't like that for everyone. Needless to say I did not go into labor that night, but when I went to the hospital about 5-7 days later for a bit of cramping I was already 5 cm dialated!

what is the point of doing this

Its when the dr. first checks for dilation and as they are doing that rub there finger between your cervix and waterbag to seperate them in hopes of kick starting labor. They did this to me every week i went in for my appts starting at 36 weeks and still had to be induced at 42 weeks, lol it didnt help me.
