I don't eat any meat or chicken. I just began to eat a little of fish before I got pregnant but I don't really like it. Anyway how can I find out where I should be getting my protein for my baby? any suggestios?

It's important you get protein, but also calcium and iron. If you eat a good amount of dairy and eggs, you should be OK. Good vegan sources of protein are rice and beans (together), soy, (tofu, soy-milk, tempeh), nuts and seeds. Certain types of fish have high lead and mercury and should also be avoided.

Also be sure to take your pre-natal vitamins. Vegetarians could easily overlook vitamin B12 as very few vegan sources have it.... good luck

Thanks BBK. How do I find out which fish are safe and which are not. I know Tuna and swordfish (of course the 2 I like) have alot of Mercury so I can't haven them but I don't know about any others. I really appreciate your advice. When are you due?

Lyn, fish somewhat safe are :Pink salmon, Chum salmon, Sockeye salmon, Flounder, Sole.... Safest are: Cod, Haddock, Pollock. In addition to Tuna and swordfish, avoid: Yellow perch, White perch, Brook trout, Rainbow trout, Catfish, Carp, Whitefish, barracuda, red snapper. My wife is due July 17, with a little girl! Very excited about it!!!
