Just wondering if gaining more than recomended will lead to a large baby?

I think it does b/c of blood sugar.

I think your weight gain just depends on your body type, what you eat, and possibly genetics... as far as I know the baby only takes from you what it needs... everything else is left for you. So basically if you gain more than recommended, you won't have a bigger baby, you'll have a bigger you.

April is right, it's only you that'll get bigger. It can make a difference if you get diabetes though.

Possible, but not necessarily. The sonogram should be the one to determine the baby size, and not by eyeballing your belly. My wife has gained 50 lbs, looks like she's having twins but the baby is EXACTLY where she should be at 3 lbs in this stage of the pregnancy. A common cause for a large baby is gestational diabetes, but docs always screen for that.

Thanks everyone for answering, I went for my 24th wk apt. and I had only gained 1 lb in the whole month? Odd, I thought and at that time my total weight gain was 16lbs. Well let me tell you I am now in my 27th week and I have already gained 5lbs. since and I have a whole week for my next apt. I definitally dont think that I will be within normal 25-30lb weight gain. I was 7-7.5oz and my hubby was just 6lbs so I am hoping that I will also have a small baby. But what concerns me is my cousin started at the same weight as me and was gaining just like me for both of her pregnancies and both of her babies were OVER 9lbs. they looked like they were 3 or 4 months already. How much are you supposed to gain in the last 3 months?

April - May 12

Normally people gain the most weight within the last 3 months. They say a pound a week or more. At my last checkup I was 29 weeks and had only gained 10 lbs my whole pregnancy. My doctor said I would gain a lot more these last 2 months. My sister was quite a bit bigger than me at 29 weeks when she was pregnant. So I think it just depends on you. Even though your cousin had a big baby, I don't think that's anything for you to worry about. They say that the baby is usually somewhere in between the mother and father's birth weights.

With my daughter i gained wayyyy to much weight and she weighed in at 8lb with my son however i gained no weight, thanks to morning sickness, and he weighed in at nearly 10lb, so no i dont think you gaining more weight will affect the babys weight. Apparently if your mother had big babies you will too, so you should ask your mother what size her babies were
