hi , would anyone just clarify why you cant take a hot bath when you are pregnant???

If the temp. is too hot it raises your body and your baby's temperature...

The temp of your uterus is not supposed to exceed either 102 F or 104F, I can't remember which it is.

It burns up the baby's brain. Remember those this is your brain on drugs in the 80s commercials with the egg? Well imagine that with your fetus.

need to be careful in early pregnancy. 50 years ago they used to have VERY hot baths to try and bring on a miscarriage. have no idea how often this actually happened, could be an old wives tale. i would keep it tepid until you are further established

My wife's Dr. told her not to take baths while's she's pregnent. She just kind of wipes herself down each day with a washcloth.

That is pretty sick. Can't she take a shower?

It's not known if it is the temperature change or the blood pressure change, that hot baths can cause but it has to do with the flow of blood to the placenta. From what I know, warm baths are perfectly fine

Its not supposed to be warmer than 102*, but a womans body usually gets uncomfortable at that temp and she will get out on her own.

It is because the amniotic fluid is your temp, around 98.6 degrees, the heat will raise you temp, basically boiling the amniotic fluid, and you severly harm the baby, even death. A warm shower is okay, but not too warm.

Yah um, if your wife is only wiping down with a facecloth for 9 months that's pretty sick and un hygenic. Anyways I read that if you start to get little beads of sweat than your bath is too hot. A nice warm bath is nice. So if theres a reason maybe your wifes doctor said not to take baths, I'm sure he didn't mean showering too.
