Advice On Clingy Baby

I have a 9 month old baby girl who has become very clingy within the last month. She's going through speration anxiety also, but that's usually not a problem because I'm a stay at home mom. My problem is that during the day she wants to be held all the time or have me sit on the floor right next to her while she plays. If I try to get up to get anything done she starts crying until I go back and sit with her. Even if she can see me from across the room she's not happy unless I'm right there. It breaks my heart to hear her cry so I usually go to her. My husband is getting upset because he thinks that I'm going to spoil her and she's going to learn that all she has to do is cry and I'll come get her. I don't know what to do. I can't get anything done during the day except for during her naps which is a total of maybe 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Should I just let her cry for a little bit or go to her everytime she crys and let the housework go?

HANNAHs Mom - May 10

Chelle...Believe me...I can relate! I am experiencing the same exact thing that you are right now...It is driving me nuts. Just this morning, I NEEDED to get a shower so I set Hannah on the rug in my bathroom while I jumped in the shower. She immediately started this screaming cry...I would open the shower door and smile at her and the crying would cease...then I closed the door and SCREAMS again! I cannot even walk into another room anymore where she cannot see me. This all started less than a week ago..(she is 8.5 months) She wants to be held constantly as well. The only thing that is working for me so far is musical dvd's and I keep giving her unusual toys to play with which will buy me time to do things...toys like spatulas, boxes...anything different that will occupy her for even 5 minutes. Thankfully it is just a phase...I don't know how long it lasts...my first dd never experienced this as she was in daycare from 4 months on. (I am SAMM now). Let me know how you're coping and if you have any ideas to share too : )

It must be the age! My son is 8.5 months and hasjust recently become very clingy and he goes to day care 3 days a week. I used to be able to leave him with some toys and he would amuse himself for at least a half hour, now I can't even walk out of the room without him wailing. Just this morning I was trying to get ready for work and he would not let me get ready. I thought since he is crawling he would want more independence. hopefully it is just a phase.

Mine is the same. You might try to sit her on your hip in a sling, or use a snuggly. Sometimes it works for me, but not always. There must be something about my arms totally falling off that calms her : ) Oh yes, and tins with a metal baby spoon can work to keep her occupied. Another is to put her in a large, shallow cardboard box with some noise-making roll-arounds.
