Bad Gas Now That Baby Is Born

Hi everyone. My baby is now ten months old. Before having him, I would have the occasional gassy bout, but it seems like since his birth, I get terrible gas no matter what I eat. At first I thought it was meat (protein), but then it started happening after eating dairy, vegetables, and most recently, cereal and carbs. So basically, no matter what I eat, I get really bad gas afterwards. (And I'm not talking a little toots here--I mean all-out, terrible, awful man-like gas!). It's almost like pre-diarrhea gas, but luckily I usually don't get sick, I just pass the gas and move on with my day. ANYWAY--is anyone else experiencing this, and might it have something to do with the birth? I'm still br___tfeeding, but plan to stop in two months. Thanks in advance! Brenda

I kind of had this problem after dd was born. It only lasted for 2 months or so and wasn't really smelly or anything...but I was definately a lot ga__sier than usual. Now it seems to have calmed down. Childbirth creates a lot of changes in your body (new allergies/irritants/etc). Since you are still b___stfeeding it may be hormonal. I would just mention to your doc the next time you go in.

Thanks for the response. I certainly hope that this goes away, because you don't appreciate not having gas until you have it. (Ha ha--I hope that makes sense!). I have complete sympathy for those with IBS or other gastrointestinal problems, and am really hoping that my situation is something that will resolve itself soon.

I had bad gas while I was pregnant. What did change after I gave birth is that I can no longer eat spicy foods -- they absolutely tear me apart. I think it's because I had to change my diet while I was pregnant so my digestion's changed permanently. Don't know what to tell ya...Sorry!

Did you have a c-sec? Ever since I had my c I now have IBS and gas as well, I don't know what they did in there but I'm not normal..lol. We believe I have adhesions also so that may be some part of it.

Amyjo...yes, I did have a C-section! I attributed the gas to the surgery those first few weeks, but figured everything was healed by now. Perhaps you're right, and things DID change inside. Good grief. It's really awful.

Me too...I had a normal vagnial delivery. I don't know what the deal is? My dh said I was supposed to stop being so ga__sy now that my dd is 3 months old!! Ha, I'm worse than him..it's gross and it hurts!! I figured it was the bf hormones..but it sucks.

Sorry we're all in the same boat, but it's nice to hear that I'm not alone in this. I used to drink tons of milk, but stopped after Rory was born because of b___stfeeding, etc. Now I'm wondering if I'm not processing the lactose very well anymore because I did that. It's gotten so bad that I even bought some Beano in hopes of staving off the gas, but it doesn't work for me with everyday food like spaghetti, but I guess I was dreaming (it's supposed to work with high-fiber foods like broccoli, cabbage and beans, but I don't have the guts to even go near those foods lately!). Here's hoping that when I wean the baby next month, things will settle down.

I remember having really bad gas pains after I had my son. He was a c-section too. My mom always said to drink hot water, that helps with the gas. I'll be having another c-section in July & not looking forward to those gas pains! Best of luck to you!

See, I didn't have the gas pains after the surgery...I was ok with the gas, bathroom issues. I went #2 a few hours after they took the catheter out. But several weeks later I was having severe gas pain and constipation or diarrhea. My bowels ( I know tmi) are not the same as before the surgery I'ma tellin ya. I get gas and I'm embarra__sed when I fart and I'm home alone!
