Hi ladies, My ds turned a week old today and I believe he is constipated. He has not had a bowel movement in a lil over a day. Before this, he was having at least 4-5 bms a this normal? I have read that their bms would level out but I thought this was a lil too soon. If he is constipated what can I do to make him not constipated? He is formula fed and is on Enfamil with Iron.... Any advice you can give is greatly appreciated.

Our dd also became constipated when we brought her home (about 1 week old) We tried adding a small amount of karo to her formula and it helped. But we eventually had to switch her formula to Enfalmil Nutramigen. The other emfamils were to harsh for her. Once we did that she was fine. Sometimes newborns do skip a day or two and usually it is not a big issue, but also check for a temp. If she still wont go there is a way to make her go, we had to do this and it is gross. You need to put a thermomator just inside her but and she will go, so upsetting to me and her. But the doc told us this and it did work. But thankfullly the formula kicked in and I never had to do that again. Good luck.

Congratulations on the new baby! I would definitely contact his pediatrician before giving the baby anything to make him less constipated. He is so young, you wouldn't want to do anything to harm him. Good luck!

My ds started being constipated way back when he was about 4 weeks old and my ped okayed pear juice to help move things along. It works for us. He is 7 months now and still gets pear juice to help with constipation. I would still call your ped to make sure though since he is so young.

i afree with the pear juice and thermometer you can also use apple juice. you dont need to dilute it just give him 1/2 or 1 oz between feeding and that should help move thing along. dd just got over a bout of constipation because the dumba__s doc i took her to put her on soy. good luck i know its hard to deal with

Call your ped in the AM. See what they say. Mine said it wasn't a big deal unless he had went 48 hours with a BM. When he does have another BM, pay attention to the texture consistancy. If it is still soft, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. If it is hard or harder than normal, talk to your ped about how to get more moisture into his BM.

Oh this is equally gross, but have you ever been around a cat with kittens? The cat will lick her kittens bums to stimulate them to go. I would put A&D ointment on a tissue and ma__sage his little b___thole with it bit. It would usually make him go within 15 minutes or so.

My dd got that way when she had formula with iron. Iron is a great culprit in backing people up. Maybe switch to the lower iron enfamil and see what happens.
