Crib Bumper Danger FYI

Last night my 11 week old woke me up and when I went to check on him he had unswaddled himself, turned the opposite direction in his crib and rolled up against the bumper. His face was pressed up against it. It scared me to death! I don't know how he did it. He is rolling on to his side, but not rolling over yet. Anyway, I did a google search today and found that with cribs as safe as they are now days, the American Academy of Pediatrics does not even recommend the use of bumpers. I had no idea! My child will never have one in the crib again and I thought the rest of you would like to be made aware of this if you weren't aware either.

Wow, that would be absolutely terrifying! My ds has occasional sleep apnea which I'm somehwat used to now but that would scare me half to death! I knew about bumpers as they taught us in our pre-natal cla__ses (I'm in Canada so it may be different here) but it's supposedley a relatively new thing.

No they are not recommended, however, there is a bumper that is called the breathable bumper. It is made of breathable mesh and is SIDS approved. I purchased mine at babies r us, but I believe that www.onestepahead.com also sells them.
