Dehydrated Please HELP

It is very hot in NY these days, but specially today I noticed my son has slept and sweated a lot. I am affraid he is getting dehydrated. I have a fan running in the bedroom to cool down the temperature, he wets his diapers normally and cries with tears, but I am scared I might be missing something. He is almost 4 months, how early is it to give him water or pedialyte or something?

If he is wetting his diapers normally and crying tears then he is not dehydrated...those are generally your first two indicators. I would encourage a regular fluid (formula or b___st) intake as much as possible...water is really no better than his milk. As far as pedialyte a small amount wouldn't hurt him, but I wouldn't overdo it as the label does state to consult a dr. before administering to a baby under 6 months. Here is a link that has more on dehydration in babies www.babycenter.com/refcap/baby/babyills/11527.html Remove any dashes.

Thanks, Rabbits! This is my first baby so I guess everything is new and scary to me. Maybe he was just lethargic due to the weather, because now he is awake, eating and smiling. I am reluctant to call the ped because (I know it is silly) she might tell me to bring him to her office and it is raining like hell out there and it might be nothing at all. Thanks again!
