Did Anyone Use A Doula Or An Extra Coach

Hello ladies -- I also posted this in the postpartum section. I'm thinking about becoming a doula, just starting to do the research and read the books. Just wondering if any of you had a doula attend your labors, what your liked or disliked, or anything else you can think of. Or, if you had a friend/mom/etc there to help coach, did that make a difference? Personally I had my mom there along with my husband, she was amazing and I credit the two of them with helping me have a wonderful, drug-free labor. Thanks for your help! ~spam

I had a doula leading up to the birth, although ended up having a scheduled c-section which she did not attend. It was really helpful talking with her before the birth... she talked with us about things like parenting philosophy, and preparing for the birth, etc. And I was really excited at the prospect of having an "advocate" for us at the hospital (if we did go through natural childbirth). She also did things like gave me a pregnancy ma__sage which was really lovely! Good luck to you...
