Summer is coming around!! it is getting warmer and the baby is sweating more and more. I was wondering what you ladies thought about how to replenish the liquids the baby is loosing by sweating.. Do you feed more often? do you give them water??

I bf my 4 mo old, and I have continued to feed on demand, but I also give about an oz of water if we've been outside. I actually started doing it because I had a cup of water and she reached for it, so on a whim I let her try it. She loves drinking from a cup now!

I let my daughter drink as much as she wants during the day, in the winter i cut her off at 4pm because her diaper leaks really bad, but in the summer i dont care. The c___ppy part is she wont drink just plain water so i have to water down juice pretty well so shes not getting all that sugar!!

Most of what they get in formula is plenty enough. You do have to be careful with water in infants as I've read a few times that they can definately drink too much and cause harm. However, I have also read that if it is REALLY warm then some extra water is fine. I would call your ped just to verify.

I nurse my daughter when she asks for it - only once, maybe twice a day, now. I also make sure she has a sippy cup of juice or water around her. I trust that my daughter is different from adults in that she hasn't learned to ignore her body's signals yet. She knows when she needs to drink, and as long as I have a beverage available to her, she will drink when she needs to.

Oh, when we're not around air conditioning, I am constantly checking her skin - if she starts to feel warm, I wipe her down with a cool wash cloth. I'm paranoid about her overheating.
